Overhauled Yahoo Mail app for Android download available on Google Play Store

The Yahoo Mail app has been overhauled and its Android version is now available for download on Google Play Store, a few weeks after its redesigned iPhone avatar hit Apple iTunes. The company claims that iOS users have been spending more time signed into the application since the new look was rolled out and is obviously hoping the Android update will deliver similar results too.

Yahoo Mail not only allows users to deal with emails, it also lets them check out what’s in the news, watch videos, surf through Flickr, find out weather information and keep tabs on sports scores amongst other things, from a single interface. One of the fresh features that is peculiar to the Android update is the left or right swipe gesture support for moving between your mails, news feed and Today.

Today is the addition which plays host to the latest on local weather, global headlines, sports scores, viral videos and Flickr photos. In case you’re not comfortable with gestures for switching between tasks, then the inbox, Today and News can also be clicked open by hitting the concerned icon which can be seen along the bottom of the screen.

The redesigned version of Yahoo’s email service as an application is already available for Android through Google Play Store. You’ll have to wait a bit to experience the full effects of the redesign since Today and News are yet to be rolled out for supported smartphones and/or tablets.

For those who’re not on Android, here’s a video of the overhauled Yahoo Mail app for iOS.
