Over 50 percent mobile subscribers in US own smartphones: Nielsen

Nielsen Reports 01

A research conducted by Nielsen in the first quarter of 2012, has proved that more than 50 percent of the total mobile subscribers in the US happen to use smartphones. The usage of these mobile devices is said to have been increased from 47.8 percent in December last year to 50.4 percent in 2Q12.

If the reports are to be believed, users in the US choose smartphones over other mobile devices, when purchasing new phones. Apple seems to be ruling the roost amongst the manufacturers of smartphones, while the Google Android mobile platform has taken the first position to become the top smartphone OS.

Android is currently being used by 48.5 percent smartphone users in the country. iOS is close on the heels of Android with 32 percent loyalists and BlackBerry is way behind with 11.6 percent subscribers in third position. Windows Mobile and Windows Phone rank fourth and fifth with 4.1 percent and 1.7 percent users, respectively. The remaining 2.1 percent smartphone owners use other platforms.
