Orange unveils the Power Pump Charger

Orange Power Pump

This summer, visitors of the Glastonbury festival can be ensured of being well in touch with family and friends while on location. Orange along with Gotwind has now launched a new mobile phone charger prototype called the Power Pump Charger.

This compact device measures about 154 x 129 x 47 mm in size. It is lightweight and also fits easily in a user’s backpack. The pump of this unit harnesses kinetic energy from air bed foot pump and is driven by simple legwork. The energy that is created by the turbine is later converted to an electrical current that recharges the phone.

Ian Smith, head of sponsorship at Orange UK mentioned, “As official communications partner of Glastonbury we pride ourselves on creating innovative, fun and ecologically aware products which enhance the Glastonbury experience by allowing festival goers to stay in touch with their friends onsite.”

Ideal for camping, this accessory offers a great fit with most handsets. With a sleek black covering, the turbine has the ability to produce enough energy to power nearly 5 minutes of call time. In addition to this, the Pump is also eco-friendly. Using clean and renewable energy, the innovative charger will also enable music lovers to connect while on the site.

Orange will display the Orange Power Pump at this year’s Glastonbury Festival from June 24 to June 28, 2009 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.
