Oppo R5 ultra-slim smartphone now available for pre-order at Rs 29900

The impossibly thin Oppo R5 has chosen the worst way ever to go about making itself available for pre-order at the previously mentioned price of Rs 29900. You actually have to visit a physical store offering it up for pre-booking in order to lay hands on it.

Several brands have been facing the ire of retail outlets for offering their devices through online vendors exclusively. It’s possible that the Oppo R5 is being sold through traditional channels because a lot of people still like getting the feel of a gadget before buying it and being boycotted by brick-and-mortar storefronts is the last thing the company needs.

The Oppo smartphone has a 5.2-inch screen whose resolution has been kept to full HD only in order to conserve the 2000mAh battery supporting it. The last mentioned has a Rapid Charge system, with 5 minutes at the power outlet being all its needs for a 2-hour phone call apparently. The limited ROM of 16GB is likely to have you peeved and so is the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack.

For those of you who don’t know this, the R5 is the second thinnest phone in the world thanks to its 4.85mm depth, though we don’t think you’d care much for how slim its profile is once you’ve padded it out with a protective case. The Vivo X5 Max beats it by a whole 0.10mm with its 4.75mm girth and is also up for grabs in India at Rs 32980.

Oppo R5 features list:

– 2GB RAM, 16GB storage aboard
– Android v4.4 KitKat with Color OS 2.0
– 5.2-inch 1080p full HD touchscreen
– 64-bit 1.5GHz octa core Snapdragon 615 chip
– Adreno 405 graphics power
– 13MP main camera with Sony sensor, 5MP webcam
– 148.9mm x 74.5mm x 4.85mm dimensions
– 155gm weight
– 2000mAh battery

Pre-orders for the Oppo R5 will be open until January 15. Now we know that everyone is not dependent on online stores to buy their products, but the mere thought of not having the option turns us off. Even the X5 Max is officially available in brick-and-mortar outlets only.
