Months after integrating Microsoft’s apps with itself, Cyanogen is now bringing the virtual assistant Cortana to OnePlus One users in India. The software is can be grabbed via any device running Cyanogen OS 13.1 right now. It will be installed automatically once users connect to Wi-Fi.
The Cortana India update introduces new features like the Cortana mod for the OnePlus One’s camera and lock screen. Users can now give voice commands to initiate a countdown for capturing images or search something in the device from the lock screen itself. This is possible due to the deeply integrated version of the virtual assistant software on Cyanogen OS.
Using this software, users can also set alarms, switch mobile data on or off and even activate or deactivate no disturbance hours with physically touching the device. They just have to say ‘Hey Cortana’ for the virtual assistant to spring into action.
The Cyanogen integration with Microsoft was introduced with the operating system’s version 13.1 for OnePlus One users in January. The new edition added several features from the tech giant’s stable like the Skype mod to make calls directly from the Phone app in the device. Other mods included the ones in Hyperlapse for Camera application and OneNote.
Cortana was developed by Microsoft and is in league with other virtual assistants like the iOS-based Siri and Google Now. This software was first introduced with Windows 10 last year and has now been made available across platforms like Android and Cyanogen.
Initially, Cortana was able to function only in English but newer versions of the software are available in languages like French, German and Japanese. Cyanogen OS is the platform for smartphones like the Lenovo Zuk Z1 and the Yu Yureka series in India.
