Ola Prime cabs to offer free Wi-Fi and celebrity drivers

Ola has launched a new promotional campaign to announce its revamped fleet of Prime cabs in Bangalore, which now includes vehicles like sedans and SUVs. The cars are equipped with facilities like free Wi-Fi and will offer a personalized experience to consumers.

The Prime cabs are exclusively available to Ola Select customers starting from September 8. To recall, the company launched the elite program a month ago. Membership is decided by the brand and depends upon various factors such as a person’s frequency of use and behavior.

The first few customers availing the luxury cabs in Bangalore could stand a chance to be driven by celebrities and comedians like Milind Soman and Abhish Matthew. Ola has even managed to rope in F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan for the project, with many other personalities to follow.

Ola currently has approximately 500 cars in its Prime fleet. As an introductory offer, users get to pay Rs 13 per km. A base fare of Rs 100 for the first 4km is also applicable, in addition to a ride time charge of Rs 1 per minute. The rates will revert back to Rs 200 for the first 5km after the expiry of the scheme.

The taxi-hailing app was recently hit by a privacy controversy in Chennai. A customer alleged that she had been receiving personal details of over 100 Ola customers in Bangalore. The information was relayed over SMSes and contained particulars like names, addresses and numbers.

While completely unresponsive to her concerns initially, Ola eventually cleared up the matter after she detailed her experience in a post on Facebook. The SMSes were apparently meant for their drivers and she was receiving them due to a technical glitch.
