Oki Power Management LSIs for Mobile Phones launched

LDO and Oki logo Oki Electric has announced the launch of 8 new models of power managements LSIs which are suitable for mobile phones.

The new LSIs aim is to provide low power consumption, low noise and high efficiency.

Mobile devices which include mobile phones are now-a-days coming with a lot of in-built features such as camera, music player, TV tuner. THus, mobile phones require a longer battery life.

The Oki’s new low drop out regulator (LDO), provides power consumption of 50-100nA in standby mode and 3-12μA in no-load mode.

Thus an 80-90 per cent reduction in power consumption compared to industry standards which is ideal for sophisticated mobile phones.

The efficiency of Oki’s step-down DC/DC converter is 95 per cent at an output current of 500mA, which is higher than conventional converters, which offers solution as the main power supply for digital still cameras.

According to Takaki Yamada, President of Silicon Microdevice Company at Oki Electric Industry, “We entered the power management LSI market in July 2006 to leverage our strength in manufacturing technologies for high-voltage and lower power consumption devices, which are widely used in manufacturing processes and TFT LCD driver LSIs. The models we add today significantly reduce power consumption which means longer battery life for mobile devices.”

He further added, “Going forward we will continue to provide various kinds of power management LSIs with a variety of functions, not only for mobile and portable devices but also for flat panel displays and printers.”

The new LSI’s would be available from January 2008.
