O2, Napster partner to offer Music Service on Mobiles

Napster, O2 Logo Network provider O2 has signed a deal with Napster, the well-known online music site. Under this deal, O2’s subscribers will get access to around 5 million tracks for download to both the mobile phone and PC platforms.

Antony Douglas is the head of entertainment content at O2. He was quoted as saying, “In dealing with the music industry it is important to have a partner with contacts with the leading labels because we need all the parts to come together.”

The newly announced service prices individual audio tracks at 99p and bundles of five at 4 stg.

Possibilities include direct marketing of exclusive live tracks or merchandising available for download via the phone immediately after a concert.

The track prices offered through the deal reflect an industry-wide trend to align prices with Apple’s iTunes site.
