NTT DoCoMo and 2 other Japanese carriers offer the iPhone 5S for free on contract

Competitive pricing is the key to great sales and NTT DoCoMo has embraced the concept by making the iPhone 5S available at absolutely no cost. Well, you probably know how this works – The device must be coupled with a 2-year contract. Also, this will be the first time that the carrier is selling an iPhone on its network, but it’s not the only one.

Other major providers such as KDDI and SoftBank have also adopted the same strategy as NTT DoCoMo by selling the iPhone 5S for free. The promotion is only valid on the 16GB model for all carriers. With DoCoMo joining the party, Apple will have its latest smartphones exposed to over 60 million customers which should lead to a steep increase in sales. The iPhone 5S may look no different from its predecessor, but it does have a decent amount of changes. At the heart of the device rests a 64-bit A7 processor and to make the most out of the new silicon, the iOS 7 platform has been optimized for the 64-bit architecture.

The smartphone also sports a new 8MP iSight camera on the rear which proffers lesser image noise and dual LED flash. Then there’s the Touch ID features which is a fingerprint sensor fitted within the home button. Most other components including the 4-inch Retina screen remain untouched.

Along with the iPhone 5S, NTT DoCoMo is also offering the iPhone 5C in color options of blue, green, pink, yellow and white, which is available for pre-order through dealers, while the first 30,000 Club Premier Stage customers can book the smartphone from the carrier’s website. Both smartphones will be available starting September 20.
