Tata Docomo now provides internet speed of up to 9.8Mbps by Photon Max Wi-Fi

Tata Docomo has announced that its Photon Max Wi-Fi dongle is now capable of delivering internet users a blazing fast peak download speed of 9.8Mbps. The updated bandwidth is available in select cities for now, but the carrier notes that it plans to expand the availability to more locations. For now, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are being treated to the upgraded internet speed.

According to Tata Docomo, the 9.8Mbps downlink speed has been made possible by implementing the Rev. B Phase II technology into its network. Those residing in the aforementioned cities will automatically start seeing their internet speed increase on the Photon Max Wi-Fi, while others will continue to receive the current transfer rate of 6.2Mbps.

Tata Photon Max Wi-Fi

The Tata Docomo Photon Max Wi-Fi is like your traditional 3G dongle, yet unique. While you can connect it to a laptop or PC for accessing the internet over USB, the dongle can also be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot by simply plugging it to any power outlet via a USB adapter. WLAN zones created here can support up to 5 devices at the same time. While it now supports up to 9.8Mbps is select locations, the company is also offering the Photon 3G Wi-Fi dongle that can handle a total of 10 devices and offer up to 21.1Mpbs of downlink speed. The device in question is priced at Rs 1,999, while the latter one costs Rs 2,099.

Tata Docomo hasn’t revealed which other cities will be treated to the updated downlink speed of 9.8Mbps on the Photon Max Wi-Fi, but it does note that it plans to expand the availability soon to eight more locations. We’ll keep you updated with the new details as they get announced.
