Nokia Lumia WP8 GDR2 devices receieve call and SMS blocking features

The all new GDR2 update for Nokia Lumia handsets based on the Windows Phone 8 OS boasts of tagging along support for call + SMS filter that allows users to block unwanted numbers and text messages. The feature will be added to the phone after the Extras + Info application is updated.

The call and SMS filter was spotted by the guys over at WPCentral and after people update the app, it will be found in the Settings section of the handset. Once it is activated, the feature will help you filter incoming calls and messages as well as block phone numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls or texts.

Call SMS Filters

A number of Lumia users were disappointed about the fact that the function had not been included in this range of smartphones. And they should be thankful to Microsoft for creating new APIs using WP8 build 10327 which is basically responsible for supporting this attribute in the said gadgets. If the guys over at the aforementioned websites are to be believed, the filter could be carrier locked.

Lumia owners can head over to the call + SMS filter in the Settings menu and enable or disable it according to their preferences. Blocked numbers can be managed from this tab itself. From Advanced Settings, the filter can further be tweaked for receiving toast notifications or block withheld numbers. Contacts can directly be blocked from the call log as well and people can simply pin the filter to the start screen for instant access to it.

Users of the Nokia Lumia handsets who received the GDR2 update can upgrade the Extras + Info application from the Windows Phone store to add the call + SMS filter to Settings.
