Nokia unveils N79, a swanky smartphone

Nokia N79Nokia is on an NSeries spree. In the recent days we saw the launch of the N85 and also the release of the N96 for the North American region. The Finnish giant has added yet another multimedia smartphone, the N79 to its range of intelligent and customizable devices.

We suppose Nokia aims to target fashion conscious multimedia smartphone users with the N79. The candybar handset is a powerful blend of technology and style. It is a fully-loaded multimedia computer offering integrated navigation, music with FM transmitter, high-speed connectivity, superior web browsing, at least 10 pre-loaded NGage games and an advanced 5 megapixel digital camera with Carl Zeiss optics that can edit photos on the move.

The handset is the newest in convergence and mobility, additionally comprising of a 4 GB microSD flash memory card that can store around 3,000 songs, approximately 2,500 photos and up to four hours of DVD-quality video clips. The videos can be organized by user albums or tags and can also be directly uploaded to Share on Nokia Ovi or third party services via high-speed 3.5G HSDPA and Wi-Fi. A successor of the N78, the N79 comes in a stylish cover and changeable smart covers.

Additional attributes of the handset include Nokia Maps, an in-built A-GPS providing turn-by-turn navigation and a Friendster widget via the WidSets service. The Friendster service is really fun and will allow users to browse profiles, view and post shoutouts and also upload photos taken. The battery of the stylish handset offers 24 hours of music playback.

The Nokia N79 should hit European stores around October 2008 and a US release is expected around November 2008. In five cool colours namely Light Sea Blue, Espresso Brown, Olive Green, White and Coral Red, the phone should retail for a price of Euro 350 or USD 500.
