Nokia Symbian Belle arrives for N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6 and 500

Nokia Symbian BelleThe newest operating system on the block is the newly released Nokia Symbian Belle for the N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6 and 500 phones. Following the update of Symbian Anna, Nokia has come up with the Belle which offers users newer widgets, apps and customizable options along with built-in support for NFC.

Symbian Belle users will be able to access six homescreens instead of three like in Anna. Widgets such as the clock, email, music player, favorite contacts and calendar have been restructured and now come in five varied sizes. Users are enabled to create their personalized set of screens by rearranging and resizing these widgets. New ‘toggle’ widgets for tasks like switching on Bluetooth and changing profiles are also provided by this new update.

The navigation and options bar at the bottom of the screen has undergone a makeover which appears to be similar to the one seen on the Nokia N9. The status bar also sports a modern, flat look and comes with a pull down notifications tab. This tab displays common settings and notifications of incoming messages and missed calls.

This new Symbian update integrates a new suite of business apps from Microsoft including Lync (IM for businesses, like Microsoft Communicator), Sharepoint, OneNote, Exchange ActiveSync and PowerPoint Broadcaster. Users can instantly know about missed calls and inbox messages through the lock screen which can be stylized by adding colored wallpaper.

With a simple tap, the incorporated Near-Field Communications (NFC) function lets users check-in, share pictures and connect with accessories. The upgrade also provides for visual multitasking.

The Nokia Symbian Belle operating system will be available on new Symbian smartphones as well as for N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6 and 500 phones. Users of phones running on Symbian Anna will receive this update for free.
