Nokia Store India records 2 billion app downloads

All those who had written off Nokia and its very own app store are in for a shock as the marketplace has hit the 2 billion milestone in India. It should be noted that these figures are only for Nokia feature phones which also include devices running the S40 and the Asha platforms. Smartphones belonging to the Lumia range have nothing to do with this as their applications are hosted on the Windows Phone store.

The Finnish manufacturer has revealed that 1 billion of the total downloads have been made on the Asha and S40-based handsets. And as many as 80 million applications are downloaded every month from the Nokia store. It goes without saying that basic phones manufactured by the company come pre-loaded with the marketplace.

More than 168 India developers’ applications have been installed 1 million times, while 40 developers have crossed the 10 million mark. 25 million and 50 million downloads have respectively been recorded by 18 and 9 India developers. And there are about 3 who boast of having been clocked 100 million downloads.

When it comes to popularity, action games take the cake hands down. Adventure and sports games follow closely and the fourth position goes to entertainment applications. Programs meant to keep users productive on the go have been assigned the fifth place on the list.

These 2 billion downloads in the Nokia store have been recorded in India and there has been a sharp rise only last year. The company attributes its success to its partner mobile operators like Idea, Vodafone, Airtel and Reliance who offer various data schemes with new phones.
