Nokia collaborates with Yahoo! to offer web services

Nokia Yahoo Logo Users who have been looking to surf the web on their mobile phone now have a reason to smile. Yahoo! and Nokia have annunciated a strategic alliance to offer users a rich experience that promises to keep them connected to the world from their mobile phones.

Taking their five year partnership further, Yahoo! and Nokia will influence each other’s strengths in e-mails, instant messaging, maps and navigation services. This touts to render quick access to the world-class experience on PC and mobile devices.

“Delivering great user experiences — both online and on your mobile – is what this alliance is all about. We’re enabling millions of Yahoo! customers in key markets including North America to discover the unique capabilities that Ovi Maps brings. Similarly, Yahoo!’s online expertise will bring exciting mail and messaging enhancements to millions of Ovi Mail customers across almost every country around the world, many of whom will have their first Internet experience on their mobile,” commented Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO, Nokia.

Just to notify, Nokia as a part of their alliance will be the unique global provider of Yahoo! maps and navigation services including Ovi Maps across Yahoo! properties, branded as ‘powered by Ovi.’ Yahoo! will be the exclusive global provider of Nokia’s Ovi mail and Ovi Chat services branded as ‘Ovi Mail powered by Yahoo!’ or ‘Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo!’

We’re excited to expand the reach of our best-in-class Mail and Messenger services, bringing personalized experiences to more people across the mobile web, particularly in emerging markets where we are seeding the next generation of Yahoo! users. At the same time, we believe Nokia’s strength and continued investment in maps and navigation will greatly enhance our existing products, enabling us to focus on areas that are core to our business.”

Nokia and Yahoo! aim to make Ovi easily accessible to its users. Users will now be able to easily access their online content and services across select yahoo properties.

Mutually, Yahoo! and Nokia will continue to provide appealing internet services to its users, developers, operators and advertisers. The companies will utilize their global distribution advantages and brand recognition to offer co-branded services to its users from the second half of 2010, and it will be globally available in 2011.
