Nokia was last spotted making news in the Indian market with its E7 business smartphone. Well, the company has now extended its Symbian mobile phone lineup with the newest Astound smartphone.

Flaunting a sleek stainless-steel design, the offering incorporates an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities. Fitted with a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen AMOLED display, the unit enables users to access turn-by-turn navigation for no extra charges and a wide array of free and paid apps through the Ovi Store.

“As millions more consumers make the switch to smartphones, Nokia is proud to offer an alternative that is not only easy and fun to use, but is also very sexy and sleek, unlike anything in its price point,” commented Mark Slater, vice president of sales, Nokia. “With a user experience rounded out by Nokia’s Ovi services, including Maps and Store, consumers will be delighted to discover Nokia’s premium design quality with no compromises on services and apps, made affordable with T-Mobile.”

Besides three fully customizable homescreens, the device helps social buffs keep in touch with their loved ones via Facebook and Twitter along with e-mails. The handset comes equipped with pre-loaded games such as Fruit Ninja and promises to augment the music experience with the Slacker Radio app.

“As T-Mobile continues to make owning a smartphone easy and affordable, we are thrilled to introduce the high-quality design and entertainment experience of the Nokia Astound,” remarked Andrew Morrison, vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. “Offering the features of a high-end smartphone at a great price, the Nokia Astound is sure to appeal to a broad array of consumers.”

The ultrathin, damage-resistant glass shields the display screen. The newly unleashed handset comes along with automotive grade maps for users across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Caribbean. The experience is further enhanced with advanced search engines and Wi-Fi positioning, a drive assistance mode for real-time traffic updates, maps of public transit lines and more. The apps and services downloaded from the Ovi Store will be directly billed to users’ monthly T-Mobile bill or credit card.

The Nokia Astound smartphone will be up for grabs beginning April 6 via T-Mobile retail stores and the official website for $79.99 with a two-year service agreement and qualifying voice and data plan after a $50 mail-in rebate. Users will also be able to snap up this device through Costco, RadioShack, Sam’s Club, Target Mobile and Walmart.
