Nextbit Robin ‘Cloud-First’ smartphone up for pre-orders

The cool new cloud-centered Nextbit Robin smartphone is ready for pre-order on BackerKit with specs to match the amount it demands. The price of Nextbit Robin is currently pegged upwards from $399 and it will start shipping in February 2016. When we say ‘unlimited,’ it actually means that the handset is designed to automatically manage your memory needs for you to prevent you running out of room locally.

In other words, the Nextbit Robin will move apps, data or multimedia you don’t use regularly to the cloud, clearing space on your phone. And it does this with careful consideration too. It is set to automatically back up content online before deleting it from device only when it’s connected to Wi-Fi and you happen to be charging it. These settings which are on by default, can be customized of course.

An internet connection is not required when the offloaded content is being deleted from local storage. But you will obviously need one to get back any data that’s been carted off to the cloud. There’s actually 32GB of memory aboard and 100GB online space. Nextbit offers a 1-year cover for the Robin for everything except physical damage. It features an unlocked bootloader and open source drivers, meaning the warranty will have your back even if you load it with Cyanogen or any other ROM.
