New pricing model by O2 makes data download cheaper

O2 logoData downloads on smartphones have increased over a period of time. O2 has come up with a new pricing model that should make data download cheaper for its users. Through this new pricing model, the company aims to simplify the entangled and bemusing pricing jargon for its users and build a transparent pricing strategy.

The new ambit of prices will be available to both new and existing customers. These users will be provided with unlimited data until October 1. Once the October due date is met with, users who have signed up for the new prices will be able to buy additional data Bolt Ons which include 500MB for £5 or 1GB for £10. In addition, O2 will enable customers to keep a check on their usage by sending them regular text messages.

O2 CEO Ronan Dunne commented, “We know that customers are looking for clarity in pricing as too many offers have clauses and catches which are not easy to understand. With the wide range of Internet based services now available on mobile devices we’re providing customers with generous clear data bundles that give customers freedom. This enables us to provide a better overall experience for the vast majority of customers and to better manage demand.”

A major chunk of existing customers using O2 data services need not buy additional data allowances. This new policy is not to affect the existing customers as O2 will continue to provide them unlimited Wi-Fi through The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots. An unlimited data usage with an Excessive Use Policy will be put into place for current users under the present rates.

With reference to the new prices Ronan Dunne added, “By doing this, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable data experience for all customers and the huge possibilities that technology will create over the coming years.”

The new tariff involves a range of monthly rates such as £25, £30, £35, £40, £45 and £60. Text and Wi-Fi facilities are unlimited with all packages. A monthly fee of £25 will avail 100 minutes and 500MB data to the customers. With £30 a month, users can enjoy 300 minutes and 500MB data download. Users opting for tariff rates of £35, £40 and £45 will be provided with 600, 900 and 1200 minutes and 500MB, 750MB and 750MB data downloads respectively. The price at the upper end, that is £60, offers unlimited minutes and data download up to 1GB.
