Updated Netflix for Android application goes live for download on Google Play

After rolling out an update for iOS devices just a week back, the company has announced a new Netflix for Android application that brings in a number of fresh features. The upgrade is compatible with the Android 2.3 platform and versions above it.

The application will now include a host of new titles and galleries with a layout that looks quite similar to the one seen on its tablet counterpart. It will offer a fresh browse screen along with a row placed above for users to continue watching TV shows and movies from where they previously left off. This tool will also share the Instant Queue highlight found on the iOS version. However, the attribute will be limited to certain regions only.

“The wait is over. Today I am happy to announce the release of a completely new Netflix experience for Android-powered phones. More and more of you use Netflix on mobile devices every day. Millions of Netflix members already use their smartphones to instantly watch movies and TV shows anywhere, anytime. We are always working to improve the experience so Netflix members discover more great titles and watch more,” commented Chris Jaffe, director of product innovation via a post on the official Netflix blog.

Users will be able to take advantage of the above mentioned attribute from the Home screen that is placed below the Top 10 list. Further down, there will be a series of personalized rows that provide suggestions for movies and TV shows. Also, the Netflix for Android upgrade will bring in a children and family gallery which gives users access to a number of titles that are arranged age-wise. A single tap will provide all the information with regards to the content, while a double-tap will initiate playback.
