Nearly 1.4 Million iPhones Go Missing

1.4 Million iPhones go missing iPhone is not only the most popular device but also talked and discussed about phone for various reasons. Now it’s once again in the news for the same cause – the unlocking of the handset. Though Apple is trying its level best to restrict the activity of unlocking the iPhone, it is constantly failing to do so. The latest news reports that the gap between locked and unlocked iPhones is increasing at a greater rate.

According to Toni Sacconaghi, an analyst from Bernstein Research, Apple claims to have sold of 3.7 million iPhones, while AT&T has activated only 2 million iPhones officially.. 35,000 units have been sold in Europe with Apple’s official network operators like O2, Orange and T-Mobile.

That clearly means that as much as 1.4 million iPhones are missing. “Missing” is not in the sense of stolen units but the unlocked units.

Toni Sacconaghi’s figures tell that nearly 1.4 million iPhones are unlocked globally. Elaborating more on the issue, Ezra Gottheil, an analyst at Technology Business Research Inc said, “Some unknown number of iPhones are being unlocked by purchasers and some, probably a large number, are being unlocked for resale.”

Hope Apple’s profits do not get affected with this move.
