Android seems to be everywhere and leveraging on its popularity is the new Myriad Alien Vue which gets the mobile platform to TVs and set-top boxes. Unveiled by Myriad Group AG, it is basically a customizable OEM platform which allows TV and set-top box manufacturers to incorporate Android into their existing products as well as offer support to applications developed for HTML5 and Google TV.

Alien Vue could prove to be beneficial for TV service providers as they will be able to add apps to their existing service offerings and compete against the threat of new content distribution channels by companies such as Apple and Google. Powered by Myriad Alien Dalvik technology, it comes equipped with an app store that has been created in juxtaposition with the AppCarousel and can be completely branded by service providers.

“Since launching at Mobile World Congress early this year, we have had an incredible response to our Myriad Alien Dalvik software. We have shown how Android apps can work seamlessly across non-Android devices, including mobile phones, tablets and iPads, and now, with Myriad Alien Vue, we have delivered Android to another key screen in people’s lives, the TV,” stated, Simon Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer, Myriad Group.

The Myriad platform is capable of lending support to additional plug-in components like Myriad Connect and Share besides providing multi-screen functionality for personal and premium content. Apps such as YouTube, Netflix and Twitter can easily be accessed on TVs with Alien Vue. Furthermore, the services would appear with the same clarity and definition as they do in their usual environment sans any loss of quality or performance.

Myriad Alien Vue will be showcased at the CES event to be held next year in Las Vegas between January 10 and 13.
