MTNL enables SMS in Indian Regional Languages

MTNL logo Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has introduced a new service for its pre-paid and post-paid users called ‘Sarv Bhasha Sandesh’. This service is available for sending messages in 11 different languages.

The user can send SMS languages like Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi and Punjabi.

The Sarv Bhasha Sandesh service gives customers an opportunity to compose and send SMS in the language of their choice and this will hopefully encourage the use of ones own mother-tongue such as Tamil and Hindi, explained A.K Arora, Executive Director, MTNL Delhi.

However, if the user wants to send SMS in local languages the user will have to download or install language-specific application which has been made by Geneva Software Technologies.

The Dolphin post-paid users will have to pay Rs.1 for local as well as STD while the Trump that is the pre-paid will have to pay Rs.2 for sending SMS.

Since the user can send SMS in their mother tongue, MTNL is expecting an increase growth in its sale.
