Motorola Motoactv Fitness freaks have a new accessory to motivate those exercise routines with music in the form of the freshly unveiled Motorola Motoactv. The lightweight device is a combination of a fitness performance tracker and a smart music player which conveniently clings to users’ arms while they exercise.

The Motoactv is a small, compact square device which can also be worn on the wrist. It monitors users’ physical activities via GPS and also measures the heart rate. The gadget comes incorporated with the company’s AccuSense technology and users can listen to songs by syncing it with their Motorola smartphones.

Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive officer, Motorola Mobility, remarked, “We brought the features you love in your smartphone to the fitness world with a groundbreaking addition, Motoactv. Workout smarter without using multiple devices or even wires, with the first multi-activity music and fitness tracking device with the brains to push you beyond your limits.”

This new exercise companion possesses a 1.6-inch full-color touchscreen display made of sweat, rain and scratch proof Corning Gorilla glass that auto-adjusts for indoor or outdoor lighting. It lands in two capacities of 8GB and 16GB for storing songs. Featuring FM radio, the device keeps track of various fitness performance stats such as pace, distance, calories and map of route covered, with automatic wireless syncing of workout data to Motoactv.com.

The Motorola Motoactv can now be pre-ordered from the company’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, REI and SportsAuthority. The device will be available through Verizon Wireless starting November 6. While the 8GB version is priced at $249, the 16GB one comes for a price of $299. It will also be out in Latin America and Europe from the first quarter of 2012.
