First gen Moto X smartphone ready for Android 5.1 Lollipop update

The original Motorola Moto X has been promised Lollipop and instead of Android 5.0, users will be directly getting version 5.1. The wait has certainly been long and the company has good news to share on its progress stating that the update should land in the next few weeks.

Along with the Motorola Moto X 2013 smartphone, other devices from the same year such as the original Moto E and Moto G 4G are also awaiting their jump to Android 5.1 from KitKat. The company basically found it pointless to release version 5.0 since the new OS has a lot more to offer.

Great as this news was, it also meant that it would take longer for the update to arrive. David Schuster, Motorola’s product manager, has revealed on Google Plus the main reasons behind the delay of the update. He notes that there has been lack of support from partners which has led to a struggle to develop the new software.

On the upside, the company is soon going to be starting a TestDrive (read: soak test) in the US and Latin America. So if everything goes well and there aren’t any issues with the software, Moto X 2013 users can expect to see the new OS arrive in the next few weeks.

Motorola Moto X 2013 specs recap:

– Android 4.4 KitKat
– 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display
– 16GB/32GB storage options
– 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro SOC
– 10MP main camera, 2MP front shooter
– 2200mAh battery

There’s a good chance that the Android 5.1 Lollipop rollout will commence sometime in June given that the company could soon be releasing the new OS to its latest devices in the coming days.
