Mobile shopping sees holiday season surge: PriceGrabber survey

PriceGrabber survey

PriceGrabber has declared the results of its second winter holiday shopping survey which posed various questions to shoppers regarding purchasing habits during the festival season. It was found that 90 percent of the survey takers would be shopping online from a computer as opposed to 89 percent in 2010.

As per the PriceGrabber survey, while 65 percent had stated last year that they would be shopping from an actual store, this year only 48 percent said the same. The numbers for online shopping from mobile devices has also increased from 9 percent in 2010 to 13 percent this year.

Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber commented, “We aren’t at all surprised to see online shopping make an even bigger splash in 2011 than it did in 2010. With the ability to monitor prices at one’s fingertips and to shop around the clock, today’s busy and money-conscious consumer is looking to online and mobile shopping as go-to options for finding the best deals during a frenetic period such as the winter holiday season.”

The PriceGrabber research was conducted from September 19 to October 17 and features the responses of 2,322 U.S. online shopping consumers. The study found that most shoppers will be making 63 percent of their holiday purchases online, 33 percent from physical stores and 4 percent from a mobile phone. In contrast, the average shopper from last year had said that they would make only 57 percent of purchases online, 40 percent in physical stores and 3 percent from their mobile phones.

The main reason for shopping online as opposed to physical shopping was discovered to be that shoppers did not want to get into scuffles with other customers and attempt to brave the holiday season rush. 78 percent of those who took the PriceGrabber survey vouched for this.
