The Microsoft Surface with Windows RT is what the web has termed the new iPad contender falling within the same price range as the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi version of the latter. Apart from the device itself, the company will also offer a couple of accessories that include Touch Covers.

Potential buyers will be able to pick up a sheath drenched in a variety of shades such as black, white, magenta, cyan and red. As for the specifications, the tablet weighs just about 1.5 pounds and measures approximately 10.81” x 6.77” x 0.37” in dimensions.

Like we listed out in our last report, it features a 10.6-inch ClearType HD touch panel along with options of either 32GB or 64GB internal memory. Leaning on 2GB of RAM, the slate draws its multitasking capabilities from an Nvidia T30 processor.

As noted earlier, it is based on the Windows RT OS and offers the company’s Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview that includes MS Office tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Both panels are fitted with 720p cameras for users to capture stills and record clips while on the move.

The chassis is marked with a USB 2.0 port, a microSDXC card slot and an audio jack, amongst others. Features like an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass have also made it to the specifications sheet.

Going by the price and release date details, the 32GB Microsoft Surface tablet PC will be up for purchase at a cost of $499. For an additional $100, buyers can pick up this version with a black Touch Cover at $599. The 64GB variant can also be bought bundled with the aforesaid sheath at $699.

Touch Covers

Starting October 26, they will be up for grabs via the company’s stores across the US and Canada. The Microsoft Surface will also be available for online purchase in Australia, France, the UK, Germany and Hong Kong.
