Microsoft Remote Desktop app checks into Android and iOS territory

The Microsoft Remote Desktop app which has been around for Windows devices for quite some time now has finally been made available by the company for Android and iOS products. For those unaware, the app enables you to remotely access your PCs right from the screens of your mobile devices, and even control various functions on them.

All this is made possible by the Remote Desktop Gateway server, and although a number of such solutions are already available for users to have a go at, it’s for the first time that Microsoft has brought its native app out for these platforms. It can be downloaded for free through the Google Play store and the iOS App Store.

While the Android version is 4.4MB in size and available for the 2.2 and higher versions of the OS, the variant for Apple’s devices can be downloaded as a 12.6MB chunk on all devices running iOS 6.0 or later. It can be noted that the Microsoft Remote Desktop app has been optimized for the iPhone 5.

To connect the software with your PCs you need to know your IP address in the first place. Following that, you also need to make the necessary changes on your desktop machines before you start using the app. Once connected, you’ll be presented with a multi-touch experience which will make use of the remote desktop protocol (RDP) and RemoteFX for supporting Windows gestures.

High quality video and sound streaming is also made possible by the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. Head over the Google Play store or the iOS App Store now to download it on your devices.
