MakeMyTrip, a comprehensive online travel website has launched a new service for booking bus tickets by sending an SMS. While it is very easy for smartphone users to reserve seats in buses or any other mode of transport through the dedicated MakeMyTrip application or via the official website through their handheld devices, those who own a basic mobile gadget found it difficult to make the most of these services while on the move.
Considering that the new feature requires customers to send a text message to the company, they need not have an internet-enabled gadget. The website in question has a wide network across the country and allows users to book tickets for buses of as many as 13,000 operators. These include over 12,000 routes across entire the nation.
The company has also revealed that it has collaborated with tourism departments of various states such as Punbus or Punjab Roadways, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, Bihar’s and Goa’s Road Transport Corporation and GSRTC amongst others. Those who wish to reserve tickets have to follow a very simple procedure and their work will be done within a matter of a few seconds.
In order to make the most of this feature, users can type an SMS to @mbus with their city name, destination, date for the reservation and the number of passengers and send it to 9664896648. On receiving this message, MakeMyTrip will let customers know about their options and they have to choose the operator from the provided list.
Once they have selected the bus, they will get two templates wherein users have to fill in their details as well as pay the fare through IMPS and forward the corresponding transaction details. When the travel organizer obtains the payment, customers will receive a confirmation email as well as an SMS. On some buses, this SMS acts as an e-ticket as well.
