London-based STK to enter Indian handset market this month

London-based manufacturer STK is looking to make the journey to India this month as a new contender within the affordable market segment. It’s planning to unveil phones within the Rs 2999 to Rs 9999 range here.

STK has already experienced some positive growth in India due to its accessories portfolio. Conquering the entry-level sector in the nation is the next big step. The brand hopes to be among the top 3 online handset companies in the segment within the next 2 to 3 years.

It’s an ambitious target, especially given the kind of competition STK will have to face in India from both Chinese and local brands online and offline. The manufacturer is starting off its initiative by launching 10 phones across categories by December 2016, with the intention of redefining luxury.

STK has also decided to embrace the increasingly popular mantra of Make in India manufacturing upon its arrival. The firm is supposedly in advanced talks with a number of state governments to set up manufacturing and R&D centers in India. While it hasn’t announced all the devices it’s going to debut in the subcontinent, it did confirm that its flagship Hero X will be landing here.

STK has chosen not to reveal just how much the dual-SIM Hero X will be sold at, though it did mention that the handset would carry a reasonable price tag. The phone comes with specs like 2.5D glass, a 5-inch HD screen, a 13MP camera, 4G support, 16GB of internal space, a quad-core processor, Android 5.1 Lollipop, and a 2050mAh battery.
