LG G3 will be launched in India on July 21, starts at Rs 46990

LG G3 fans in India can mark their calendars for its July 21 launch in the country and check their wallets to see if they’ve got Rs 46990 to spare. LG has gone official with the release date of its latest flagship though it’s online retail website Infibeam, which has revealed the price of the smartphone in question.

The LG G3 was made available in the company’s home country of South Korea towards the end of May with much boasting about its 2K touchscreen, a 5.5-inch display offering a flashy 2560 x 1440p resolution and 538dpi sharpness. You may say that the quad core processor hiding inside isn’t very impressive considering the Samsung Galaxy S5’s octa core variant, but then we all know more cores doesn’t necessarily equal to faster performance.

We can’t get conditioned to LG’s signature button placement which puts the power and volume rockers on the back just below the main camera yet, but the metal body and edge-to-edge screen on the G3 make up for this in terms of looks. The company has its custom software baked into Android KitKat v4.4.2, though the redesigned interface is pretty uncluttered and bare of bloatware. On the back sits a 13MP camera protected by sapphire crystal glass to prevent damage to the lens.

We know you like taking selfies and so does the LG G3 handset which has a convenient mechanism to click pictures without having you tap its screen or press a button. All you have to do is switch to the 2.1MP webcam and make a fist at it with your free hand. The device will understand that you want to snap a selfie and turn on a timer automatically so you only have to hold the phone up to your face and smile or pout or whatever. The YouTube video we’ve posted below will give you a better idea of the feature.

LG G3 specs at a glance:

– Android v4.4.2 KitKat platform
– 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor
– 5.5-inch, 2560 x 1440p touchscreen
– 2GB RAM with 16GB ROM OR
– 3GB RAM with 32GB internal memory
– 128GB microSD card support, 50GB cloud storage
– 13MP main camera, 2.1MP webcam
– 146.3mm x 74.6mm x 8.9mm
– 149gm

We’re not sure if the LG G3 will hit India in all its announced colors including white, black and gold, but the 32GB as well as 16GB variants will make it to these shores. The 32GB phone is priced at Rs 49990 on Infibeam, while its MRP reads Rs 54990. LG could wrap a tag of Rs 49990 around the 16GB device, which may sound a tad overpriced until you consider its 2K display and metal casing that put the Galaxy S5 to shame.
