LG D820 is not the Nexus 5, but a CDMA G2, says Evleaks

Last week, the internet was set ablaze with reports of the Nexus 5 gaining FCC approval under the model number LG D820. Well, it looks like people may have jumped the gun on the leak as new revelations suggest that the smartphone is merely a CDMA variant for the South Korean giant’s G2 flagship.

Pro leaker @evleaks has tweeted that the LG D820 is actually the G2. Considering the accuracy of previous leaks, the source is highly reliable. This was followed by a second tweet which was accompanied by technical details of the D821 (CDMA) and the D802 which is the GSM model that’s already official. Now, there’s still a bit of confusion. The D821 was recently spotted at the Bluetooth SIG and is most likely a variant of the current flagship LG handset as suggested, but the FCC docs show the D820 model as a completely different handset. For instance, Engadget notes that the device will have a 4.96-inch touchscreen and measure 131.9mm x 68.2mm.

Whereas, the LG G2 features a 5.2-inch display and dimensions of 138.5mm x 70.9mm. Also, the images from the website have similarities to the unidentified Nexus phone which was spotted at the KitKat statue unveiling. The previous leak also notes the existence of a Snapdragon 800 SOC and compatibility for major network bands including CDMA, GSM, HSPA+, LTE and TD-LTE.

There’s yet no concrete evidence that the D820 is the CDMA LG G2 or the Nexus 5. Nevertheless, the Google phone seen at the unveiling is still out there and it should go official by the end of next month, hopefully. Until then, you can enjoy the video which has been pulled off by Google, embedded below.
