Lenovo’s early 2015 smartphone roster will have 2 Intel-powered 4G handsets

Lenovo is one of the few OEMs which have been using Intel processors since the chip maker’s entry into the mobile market and the company plans to continue the tradition, or so states a report. The Chinese OEM plans to launch two new handsets which will be powered by Atom SOCs and they both will offer LTE-A connectivity.

CNET is reporting claiming to have received information from a person familiar with the devices, that one smartphone will basically be headed to China early February, while the other release will be reaching emerging markets at the start of January. So we’re assuming that the CES 2015 will see both devices make their debut.

There’s no word on what series the new phones will be part of, but they’ll most likely fall in the Vibe lineup. The chip maker is expected to launch a new architecture called Cherry Trail in 2015 which will be designed with the 14nm process and it’ll succeed the current Atom CPUs.

However, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see the upcoming processor power the new Lenovo handsets and we can safely say that the Merrifield or Moorefield chips will be onboard with PowerVR Series 6 graphics and the XMM 7260 modem. If so, the upcoming devices will be the first smartphones to carry the latest Intel SOCs which have only recently started appearing in Android slates.

Apart from Lenovo, Asus is also planning to launch new smartphones based on the latest Intel CPUs. The new devices will fall in the ZenFone lineup and go official at the CES 2015 next month.
