Lava releases Iris X1 Selfie smartphone with Android Lollipop and 8MP camera

The new Lava Iris X1 Selfie is priced at Rs 6777 and carries all those features loved by people who constantly update their social networking accounts with pictures of their duck pouts. Thank god selfie lovers have given Lava and similar brands the opportunity to have one more mundane category under which they can place their handsets, one indistinguishable from the next.

It’s just lazy marketing, or a ‘clever’ ruse to choke the market with so many similar products, there’s a chance potential users might stop trying to compare them and buy the newest one or the first one they clap their eyes on. Since the Lava Iris X1 Selfie needed to stay true to its name, the area above the display is taken up by a 5MP camera with LED flash.

The back panel is given to an 8MP lens with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. In order to prevent it from developing scratches, Lava has protected it with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The specs of the Iris X1 Selfie are nothing to marvel over, with a 4.5-inch touchscreen taking up the front, and Android Lollipop along with 1GB RAM and a quad core MediaTek processor powering it from within.

The Pixel V1 Android One smartphone launched by the company last week was more interesting to look at, considering that it was supposed to be a cheaper alternative to the Nexus lineup. Boasting of a 5.5-inch HD panel, Android Lollipop, 2GB RAM and a quad core MediaTek chip, the device costs Rs 11349, and is out online exclusively via Flipkart as well as through offline retail channels.
