Lava Iris Atom 2 budget smartphone out for Rs 4949

The Lava Iris Atom 2 has been launched by the company, the latest addition to its series of affordable smartphones. It’s officially priced at Rs 4949, but is out for purchase now through online and offline retailers for a bit lower.

The handset has a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480p) screen and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, upgradable to Android 5.1 Lollipop. It’s powered by a 1750mAh battery and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor of unknown origin. On the memory front, the Lava Iris Atom 2 has 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

In the camera department, it sports a 5MP main snapper accompanied by LED flash and Largan lens technology. Selfies are taken through a 0.3MP VGA front-facing camera. The Lava phone also possesses Smart Gesture Control features. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0 and GPS.

The Iris Atom 2 will be up for competition from phones such as the Canvas Spark and Blade Qlux. Both handsets are slightly more expensive at Rs 4999. The features of the Micromax device are similar to the Lava phone, except for a larger 4.7-inch screen, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front lens and a 2000mAh battery.

The 4G-ready ZTE smartphone also has similar specs compared with the Lava Iris Atom 2, but is equipped with 1GB of RAM, 8MP/5MP cameras and a 2200mAh battery.
