Lava announces three new 4G Android phones for India

Speaking of run-of-the-mill, the Lava A72, A76 and A89 phones with 4G LTE support have been announced for India. The first two have been launched already, while the third model will be out in the next few days or so. Our country is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world. That doesn’t fully explain why mobile companies feel the need to keep releasing several similarly priced handsets which are barely distinguishable from each other, almost simultaneously.

Sure we need cheap devices for the masses that are still moving up from feature phones to smart devices. But re-branding shoddily manufactured products is hardly the answer. It just leads to a quickly growing pile of ewaste. Brands would do better to put their R&D, advertising and marketing efforts into one or two well made handsets per year. Motorola’s success story with its Moto E series should serve as inspiration. The Lava A72, A76 and A89 are very similar to each other in terms of specs.

All three are powered by Android Lollipop 5.1 and 1GB of RAM. Each runs on a 1.5GHz quad core processor, offers 8GB internal space, accommodates memory expansion via a microSD card slot and sports a 5MP main camera with LED flash. The A89 has a 2MP front snapper, a 5-inch display and a 2000mAh battery. The other specifications of the A72 cover a 5MP front-facing lens, a 5-inch touchscreen and a 2500mAh power house. The Lava A76 has a VGA webcam, an 1850mAh battery and a 4.5-inch panel.
