Lava A79 with 5.5-inch screen debuts at Rs 5699

The Lava A79 has been launched in India, taking its place among the numerous other budget smartphones released by the company. The brand says the phone will be sold via retail stores across India, though it hasn’t given a definitive release date for when this will happen yet.

The dual-SIM Lava A79 can be bought in exchange of Rs 5699. At that price, it’ll be forced to contend with the hundreds of other phones within the entry-level market segment. The main feature which sets it apart from its competitors is its 5.5-inch FWVGA (800 x 480p) display.

The Lava phone will have to battle it out against other affordable 5.5-inch phones like the Canvas Spark 3. The Micromax offering is cheaper at Rs 4999 and comes with a 720p resolution screen, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera, 5MP selfie snapper, and 2900mAh battery.

There’s also a special Smart Screenshot tool to capture an entire page instead of just what’s on the screen and a Smart Music function to skip to the next song without unlocking the handset.
