Kindle for iOS updated, supports VoiceOver technology

Amazon has updated the Kindle reading app for iOS users and the key highlight of this upgrade is that the software has been tweaked to provide easier accessibility to the blind as well as the visually impaired. Updated on May 1, the utility has now been thrust to version 3.7.

One of the major focuses of this upgrade covers proffering the ability to read aloud more than 1.8 million titles from Amazon’s digital store. This technique has been made possible using Apple’s VoiceOver technology. According to the eReader maker, over 900,000 books can be downloaded for less than $4.99, while roughly 1.5 million have been pegged below $9.99.

Using the same VO technology it will be possible to read character-by-character, line-by-line and word-by-word. The bumped up software presents users with the power to add and delete not only notes, but also bookmarks and highlights.

In addition to all these attributes, iPod touch, iPad and iPhone owners will be able to take pleasure in features such as X-Ray and End Actions. In the event that people find themselves wracking their brains over an unfamiliar word, they could always look it up in the dictionary or Wikipedia.

Customizable Highlights

Over and above the power to browse through libraries while hunting for books, the app renders users with the ability to scavenge through specific text within the book as well. Moreover, people should be able to make alterations to font style, text size and brightness as per their preference and convenience.

Apart from catering to the needs of the blind and visually impaired, the updated version of Kindle for iOS has brought in some extra features. In addition to certain bug fixes and performance improvements, these basically allow users to download complimentary samples, proffer an additional font selection for Japan and more.
