JioPhone pre-orders to start again after Diwali

The JioPhone went up for pre-bookings on August 24, with about 6 million people laying a claim on the handset within the space of a day and a half. The feature phone has been closed for orders since then.

This has obviously disappointed a lot of people who are being forced to wait around for the JioPhone without knowing how long the wait will be. A new PTI report attempts to clear the air by citing a Reliance Retail channel partner regarding the next round of pre-booking.

As per the source, Jio will start taking pre-orders for the Reliance JioPhone after Diwali when the first batch of deliveries will be over and done with. The festival is taking place on October 19 this year. Accordingly, the company will likely start things up by the end of October and first week of November.

Another pressing issue is the fate of people who managed to successfully place a pre-order but haven’t gotten their unit yet. JioPhone deliveries began in late September, so it has been a few weeks since shipments began. Again, all units are supposed to be in the hands of consumers by October 19.

Reliance Jio’s website doesn’t mention anything about when pre-booking will begin again. The telecom operator is planning to announce its revised tariff plans on Diwali, so there’s a lot to look forward to for subscribers.
