Is Android 2.3 Gingerbread ready for release?

Android Logo After kicking off with a not-so-good start, Google managed to drive its Android operating software into the mainstream channel. Following the celebrated release and acceptance of Android 2.2, we’ve been hearing varied rumors about the next version of the OS. The grapevine now suggests that Android 2.3, also referred to as Gingerbread, has been scheduled as the upcoming release from the house of Google.

Recently, the company’s ‘issue’ repository dubbed Google code android displayed Issue 8804 which addressed the inability to connect corporate Wi-Fi following the Froyo update. One of the respondents replied to the post stating that a ‘patch will be available’ with the next major release namely Android 2.3. This seems to have created a buzz that the next version of the OS is on its way to the mobile market.

Ubergizmo has reported that Android 2.3 Gingerbread may roll out this week to further expand Google’s footprint in the segment. Additionally, the installation of the Gingerbread man statue in the Internet giant’s official premises has further strengthened the story. It is also being said that Samsung has been crafting a handset which will run on this new operating software. Apparently, even if the new version comes ashore, it is not expected to deliver any major benefits to Android 2.2 Froyo users.

However, there has been no official announcement from Google about the next version of the Android. So until the company decides to step into the picture, we can only wait and watch.
