Pre-booking for the Apple iPhone 7 series has begun on ecommerce websites Flipkart and Amazon India. The handset will go live in the country on October 7. It had been up for pre-order in retail stores since a few days after its launch. Sales have already begun in 28 countries across the world.
Apple’s tie-up with Flipkart to sell the iPhone 7 lineup was announced last week. The models sold through this website will be sourced directly from the brand itself, and not from authorized dealers in India. Other e-tailers like Snapdeal and Amazon India currently sell iPhones through the company’s sales partners in the country.
The iPhone 7 will be available starting at Rs 60000 for the 32GB base variant. The 128GB and 256GB versions are pegged at Rs 70000 and Rs 80000, respectively. The starting price of the iPhone 7 Plus is Rs 72000 for the 32GB model. Its higher memory variants are priced at Rs 820000 and Rs 92000, in that order.
According to surveys studying the demand for the new device, the jet black color variant has garnered the highest amount of interest so far. Nearly 50 percent of orders for the iPhone 7 series are for this color. Its popularity is enormous despite it being more prone to scratches than other finishes and is available only in 128GB and 256GB variants.
The high demand for the jet black iPhone 7 has unfortunately not been met with enough supply. Reports say that the glossy finish of the phone is proving tough on manufacturers as Apple is rejecting consignments for not meeting their standard. This variant will be delivered to customers as late as November owing to the difficulties in production.
