iPhone 5 may carry a large display with high resolution

iPhone 4S

As per the latest buzz, one of the iPhone 5 prototypes being trialed by Apple features a 3.999-inch display. This looks like a big change considering that all 4 versions of the handset carried the same display, though with varying resolutions.

The screen for the iPhone 5 or the fifth generation spinoff is speculated to be larger than all of the previous devices’. Presently, there are 2 prototypes of the phone which are being tested. Both of them apparently carry displays spanning across 3.999 inches diagonally. The stories doing the rounds indicate that the Cupertino company will not just increase the size of the screen. It will even add more pixels to it for rendering improved images.

Going by the precise figures which we can’t possibly be sure of at present, the rumored iDevice will feature a display proffering 640 x 1136p resolutions. Roughly, this accounts for an additional 176 pixels. As for the breadth of the screen, it should remain the same at around 1.9632 inches. However, it’s the length which is being tweaked and it could measure at roughly 3.484 inches in height. The viewing space should be very similar to that rendered by 16:9 screens, which should elevate the visual experience.

It also seems that the team is testing iOS 6 versions that are optimized to work with the new iPhone’s display. Some refreshments include a redesigned homescreen and an expanded application user interface amongst others. On the hardware front, the to-be-announced device could sport a home button as well as a smaller dock connector than those seen in older versions.

According to a post on 9to5Mac, the iPhone 5 dock connector may not sport the speculated pill-shaped build and it might be narrower instead.
