Intex Turbo+ 4G VoLTE feature phone unveiled, to take on JioPhone

Intex has announced 9 new feature phones in India, including a phone called the Turbo+ 4G which supports 4G VoLTE. The handset will serve as a direct challenge to the JioPhone which also boasts of LTE connectivity.

Unlike the Reliance JioPhone, Intex’s range of feature phones won’t be tied to one particular telecom operator. This gives the brand a distinct advantage, but there’s no disputing the fact that its rival effectively costs Rs 0. The company hasn’t specified individual price tags, stating that the devices range from Rs 700 to Rs 1500.

All the phones are part of the brand’s Navratna series. The OS running through its veins was initially reported to be KaiOS, but this turned out to inaccurate. The company is currently in talks with other platforms to bring them on board with its offerings. It has until Diwali to find one since that’s the timeline it has set for itself to release the handsets in India.

Diving into the Turbo+ 4G’s specs, the device has been equipped with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen. The 4G-ready handset is powered by a 2000mAh battery and runs on a dual-core processor inside. Photography options consist of a 2MP rear camera and a VGA selfie snapper. In terms of memory, it packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The amount of space which will actually be available to users hasn’t been mentioned, but it’ll probably be less than 4GB. Most people will likely require more room and can use the microSD card slot to expand on the Intex device’s storage up to 32GB. This will raise the overall cost of the handset by a bit, something to keep in mind while buying the phone.
