Intermap Technologies recently launched two AccuTerra map applications namely the Yosemite National Park Lite and the San Francisco Bay Area. With this app, iPhone users can enrich their outdoor experience in the United States.
AccuTerra apps feature on-device map content for national parks, monuments, forests, state parks and a host of recreation areas for the neighboring U.S. and Hawaii.

“Our iPhone applications continue to extend the AccuTerra product line and begin to leverage our unique NEXTMap terrain data. We’re utilizing NEXTMap data in areas of the country where we currently have coverage and will eventually upgrade the remainder of today’s AccuTerra nationwide coverage with NEXTMap data. Thus, our NEXTMap data will ultimately power mobile applications with the best nationwide mapping coverage available in the U.S. and Western Europe – a feat that cannot be replicated by any other company,” remarks Garth Lawrence, senior vice president of strategic businesses for Intermap.

“Our AccuTerra Apps are Intermap’s first products for the iPhone that enable users to plan, enjoy, and share their outdoor adventures with others – in short, we’re ‘making the great outdoors greater,” quotes Michael E. Bullock, vice president, Intermap consumer electronics.

The iPhone and AccuTerra map content permits hikers to view their topographic surroundings, and also takes care of details. Moreover it helps them to keep track of their movements. The maps are built within the iPhone, enabling them to be used anywhere, even in places where there is no cellular coverage. Now it is possible to track, save, and share the entire hike through e-mail. These applications are combined with Google Earth, which allows users to share their experiences and create online communities. Further the exclusive ‘Walking Tour’ feature permits users to replay the complete escapade for friends and family directly from their iPhone.

The application is developed with a number of features that enhance the outdoor recreation experience. It incorporates comprehensive AccuTerra maps put together according to geographic region. AccuTerra map content includes extremely meticulous color topographic data, contour lines, hydrography, land-use boundaries, major points of interest, and roads and trails. The applications offer continuous coverage of large regions with the help of utmost detailed maps and accuracy for the iPhone.

Intermap envisages the introduction of a new version of AccuTerra, for Apple’s iPhone 3.0 OS. The AccuTerra applications are available from Apple’s App Storeon iPhone or through theiTunes stores.
