India,Mobile RevenueThe Indian subcontinent’s rich media content and services is a blooming market for operator billed data services like browsing, music and games. A recent report from Juniper Research indicates that the Indian mobile download revenue is expected to cross more than $8.3 billion by 2013 from $3.0 billion in 2008.

The mobile browsing revenue is mounting continuously, with ringtones being the most productive service across India along with mobile TV, full track downloads and games. By 2013, all these would form considerable revenue streams causing mobile download revenues to soar.

Dr Windsor Holde, author of the report remarked, “With the limited availability and relatively high cost of fixed broadband Internet across the sub continent, the mobile handset has become the de facto means of accessing Internet services. Regional operators were among the first to realize that low data pricing was central to encouraging service adoption, and it has paid dividends for them.”

Additionally the report also noted that though 3G services were doubtful to be a launched in India until 2009, the introduction of the 3G networks would boost the growth of download revenue to a great extent.
