In-Flight Mobile Calls to soon be Permitted in UK Aircrafts

In Flight calling Passengers traveling from British Airway might be able to make and receive calls while on flight, in the near future.

The UK’s communications regulator Ofcom has given a green signal to install systems on British-registered planes, so that passengers will be able to use their mobile phone while on the flight. However the approval from UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is still pending.

“The safety of passengers is paramount and mobile systems on aircraft will only be installed when they have secured approval by EASA and the CAA in the UK,” said Ofcom in a statement.” If such approval has been secured, it will be a matter for individual airlines to judge whether there is consumer demand for these services.”

Apart from take off and landing, passengers will be able to make/receive calls or send/receive sms from their mobiles very soon provided the approval is received by the authorities.
