Idea reveals it added 2.54 million new subscribers in November 2014

Idea Cellular managed to grab the highest number of new subscribers among GSM-based operators in India during September, as it bagged a whopping 2.54 million new users. While doing so, it beat bigwigs like Vodafone and Airtel which fell behind it.

According to The Economic Times, telecom lobby group Cellular Operators Association of India has revealed that Vodafone came in second in November in terms of new customers with 2.33 million additions. The carrier was followed by Bharti Airtel which received 2.05 million subscribers.

The body has also revealed a few other numbers that give us an idea about the telecom situation in the country. According to it, India’s GSM connections in the month of November went up by 1.24 percent as compared to October. That means by November, there were 670.25 million mobile subscribers in the nation.

Among all the carriers the market leader still remains Bharti Airtel with its strong user base of 215.46 million subscribers. Among all of the twenty two telecom circles, UP East had the highest number of GSM subscribers in November. Around 58.85 million people subscribe to various telecom operators in this region.

The country is all set to see a major changeover next year, as 4G LTE services will be launched by various carriers here. While Airtel and a few others have already got into the game on a small scale, the impending entry of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio will prove to be a major turning point for the way things work in the market.

Idea Cellular too is ready to deploy its own 4G network soon, and has apparently chosen Kerala to be the first state to bring its high speed data service to.
