Idea launches 3G services launched in Punjab, others to follow?

Making good use of the spectrum it won recently, the Idea has launched its 3G services in Punjab to include the areas of Chandigarh, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Nabha and Nawanshahr. This comes very close to Airtel’s announcement about it rolling out its 3G network in the same region in partnership with Idea via an intra-circle roaming deal.

Idea Cellular, which happens to be the third largest telecom company in India, can now boast of offering 3G coverage in 28 states across the country. The network operator’s most recent win of spectrum in the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands will mean that it can also spread its business into the 4G arena in important markets.

These packages are priced at Rs 19, Rs 56 and Rs 98, in that order.

An unlimited data at Rs 645 a month is available too and smartphones, the 3G NetSetter as well as Netsmart Wi-Fi dongles will be released by the telecom brand in its Punjab market. If you want to compare what Airtel which piggybacks on Idea’s network has to offer, then you should know that the company’s plans start at Rs 23.

With the addition of Punjab to its roster, Idea Cellular delivers 3G services through its own network in 13 states. The Economic Times says that it serves up the same to customers in 15 more states through intra-circle roaming agreements with other operators.
