Huawei partners with China Mobile to bring 4G LTE on Mt. Everest

In a bid to offer extremely fast internet coverage to those visiting the Mount Everest, Huawei has joined forces with China Mobile to bring 4G LTE TDD to its base camp. Huawei, a Chinese handset manufacturer and China Mobile, a network operator in the Asian country have already deployed the service as much as 5,200 meters above sea level.

Prior to the 2008 Olympic Games torch relay, the OEM had collaborated with this network operator and some other companies to set up GSM networks on world’s highest mountain peak. This was done back in 2007. And Huawei claims that the service has been running smoothly and offers cellular coverage to the visitors.

It has also been revealed that the carrier had already announced the service at a launch event held on June 11. China Mobile had demonstrated that the coverage was working fine as it streamed live HD videos from the said base camp to the venue where the conference was taking place, back then.

Huawei has been partnering with different carriers lately for proffering high speed internet to people at various places. Only recently we had reported about the collaboration between the Chinese company and Airtel who have decided to bring 3G data connection to commuters of EasyCabs in Delhi NCR in India.

The E355 Wi-Fi data cards have been installed in around 100 cabs plying in Delhi and neighboring areas and Airtel is responsible for offering the connection to these devices. People who get into the cabs can use it for browsing the web or downloading stuff from the internet, absolutely free of charge. Obviously, they will have to ask the driver for the password before they connect their Wi-Fi-enabled gadgets to the mobile hotspot.

Huawei and China Mobile have successfully set up 4G LTE TDD coverage ON Mount Everest, which the former company’s President believes, is an important milestone in the global development of this network.
