In a surprise move, owners of the Huawei Honor 7 in India are all set to start receiving the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company had previously announced it was going to launch the update for a number of its devices by February 2016, but has decided to make it available for users of the handset ahead of schedule.
To recall, the Huawei Honor 7 was released in India in October this year priced at Rs 22999. Unusually, the manufacturer has set up a registration system for owners of the phone who want to get the over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The link to the registration has been posted on its local Facebook page, where it had announced the news of the upgrade.
The form requires information such as the current software version the smartphone is running. People can check this by heading over to Settings and then tapping About Phone. Users will also have to look up their 16-digit IMEI number, which can be accessed by dialing *#06# into their device’s number pad. Huawei warns that an incorrect IMEI number will result in the person not getting the update.

Other details required for the form include an email address and phone number. If the details have been filled in correctly, consumers should start receiving the Android 6.0 upgrade within 24 to 48 hours of submission. Huawei has asked people who go through any problems during or after the installation to contact the Honor Club Facebook page for assistance.
