Huawei Honor 5C smartphone unveiled with fingerprint sensor, metal body

The Huawei Honor 5C is an unusual phone for a list of reasons starting with its price which is less than Rs 10000. In spite of its relatively low cost, it’s got a metal unibody design as well as a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. Wait until you start using a device with a biometric reader for locking and unlocking it before asking what’s the big deal about this technology. The Honor 5C 3G has been launched in China for 899 Yuan and will be up for sale on May 5. The 4G version is for 999 Yuan. It’s expected to be released in other countries across the world at a later date.

Huawei has been on a good streak for some time. Apart from having been chosen to build Google’s flagship Nexus 6P, it has also climbed to the third spot (behind Samsung and Apple) with regards to global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2016. Its flagship P9 and P9 Plus offerings have been well received in general and rival Apple’s sales continue to look gloomy in Greater China, an important market for both brands. And the new 5C should help the company gain further momentum in the mid-range segment.
